Characters Present:
Kevin
Kei
Sterling
Rune
Penelope

When we resume, Kevin is in the Tir embassy, Kei is lounging in bed, Sterling is having breakfast with his officers, Rune gets out of bed and has breakfast, and Penelope is training with a sword in Westshire.

Wynn and Fatima are not present, having gone to Wynn’s Shadow to look into some mysterious deaths.

Everyone is Trumped by either Corwin or Merlin, and told that there will be a family meeting in an hour.  Everyone eventually trickles into Corwin’s office.  Corwin says that there are three family events that need tending to: Fiona’s wedding to Tubble Chanicut in Chaos, Caine’s coronation in Amber, and a final sibling to bring into the fold.  Apparently her Shadow went missing, but now it came back, and Corwin figures that he’s not the only one to notice.  Corwin, Kei, and Kaji are required to go to Amber, and Merlin to Chaos.  Kevin elects to go with Merlin, and Rune and Sterling agree to go after their sister.

Beautiful scenic Chaos!  The wedding is being held at the Church of the Serpent at the Thelbane.  Kevin gets dolled up and racks spells.

Kei scrubs Kaji within an inch of his life and gets them each into formal kimonos.

Rune and Sterling get armored up, grab travel gear and guns.

Merlin and Kevin Trump to House Sawall and then take the scenic route through Chaos.  The Church has stone pews that rise up in a semicircle like an amphitheater.

In Amber, Kei, Kaji, and Corwin arrive.  The place is all decorated in green, white, and black.  Julian joins them there and says that the ceremony is in the throne room.  Kaji will be required for part of the ceremony.

Rune and Sterling Trump to Westshire.  Rune senses Logrus-based Trump energy coming from the palace.  Inside, Penny is having lunch with her family and begins hearing noises of a fight outside the room.  It takes awhile for her family to notice, but they eventually send a servant to see what the commotion is.  The door bursts open and demons pour in.  The family runs the other way.  Rune and Sterling hear the racket from outside the castle.  They see a castle guard fly out a window and hit the ground before them.  The brothers dismount and Sterling zips them up to the floor where the guard came from.  In this room there is an open Trump Gate and demons and mooks doing their thing.

Kevin is seated and the music starts.  The groom and his party take their places.  Fiona appears in a black dress, looking pale and wan.  Llewella performs the service.

In Amber, “Greensleeves” is played, and Corwin looks pained.  Swayvill, Bleys, Gerard, Julian, and Flora are present.  Julian performs the service.  Gerard is named Admiral of the Navy, and Bleys is named General of the Armies.  Kaji is called forward and given Julian’s lands of Arden Shire.

In Westshire, Sterling looks through his scope and sees wards protecting the Trump Gate.  Sterling shoots the Chaosian who is powering the ward.  The ward goes, and demons rush him.  He takes out several before getting mobbed.  With the demons clinging to him, he zips up into the sky.  Some of the demons grow wings and fly; the others grab onto the flying demons.  Sterling zips himself back down to the castle.  Meanwhile, Rune readies a Trump of Sterling, and goes to check out the Gate.

Penny is still running with her family.  She notices that they’re headed for a dead end and shouts her disagreement.  The family heads for a place to barricade themselves in; Penny runs a different way.  Interestingly, the demons follow her.  She arrives in a room where she sees a sparkling portal, and a man (Sterling) appears before her.  He insists that he’s here to rescue her, and shoots some demons as a show of good faith.

Meanwhile, Rune goes through the Trump Gate into Chaos, where he kills a nasty, sorcerous-looking guy, and the Gate disappears.  He spends some quality time slicing up demons.  Sterling tries to Trump Rune, but the latter doesn’t answer since he’s fighting.  Sterling Trumps himself and Penny to Argent and dumps his sister off in her room.  Penny investigates her wacky high-tech room.

In Chaos, the wedding finishes and the reception in the Thelbane begins.  Mingling ensues.  Jasra shakes hands with Kevin, palming a Trump card to him.  Brand and Kevin chat.

Rune accidentally moves through a Way, and continues fighting demons.  Sterling finally gets Rune in Trump contact, and pulls him through.

Brand and Kevin part ways.  Kevin sees that Jasra gave him a place Trump.  Someone hands Kevin a drink, and his wards react against it.  He works on poking through the spell and finds that it is a powerful sexual stimulant.  People start to withdraw from the reception hall suggestively.  Some people clump together in consternation.  Merlin is already missing.  Fiona looks annoyed but unaffected.  Something pokes him in the shoulder.  “Hi.  What’s your name?”  Kevin casts Containment to fend off his would-be date, and goes to see Fiona.

An amused Dara seeks out “Patient Zero” and finds the spell anchored to the buffet table.

In Amber, the post-coronation party begins.  Kei notices that the room is going silent behind her.  She turns to see a bloodied Unicorn stumbling into the room.  The creature falls, and no one does anything but stare.  Kei goes to the Unicorn and tries to check her wounds, breathing, and pulse.  It is difficult to find signs of life, but she does not seem dead.  Her injuries look like lash wounds, like having raced through sharp brambles.  Kei picks up the Unicorn and starts walking.  This seems to mobilize her family, and gains her the company of Corwin, Julian, and Flora.  They lead her to the infirmary.

Sterling and Rune greet Penny.  She is 5’ 8”, with long reddish-brown hair and hazel eyes, approximately eighteen years old and wearing an everyday-type medieval dress.  They call for wine and discuss their day.

Kevin leaves the reception and returns to Argent.  He smells burnt metal and sees servants schlepping charred armor.  He meets Penny.

Kei cleans up the Unicorn’s wounds in the infirmary and finds that the Unicorn does not seem to be an actual physical being.  She asks her family members for ideas.  They suggest Fiona or Brand for help, and Fiona is getting married.  Kei Trumps Brand and brings him through.  Brand inspects the Unicorn.

Rune makes Trumps of Penny for the family.  Kevin and Sterling get her up to speed on Argent, the family, etc.  Sterling Trumps Corwin to introduce Penny to her father.  Corwin sends Kei through to them.  Kei’s kimono and hands are covered in blood, which smells sweet and tastes good.  Kevin is horrified.  Penny goes for a tour of the castle with her brothers while Kei gets cleaned up.

Brand is left alone with the Unicorn by his siblings.  He starts for the door to give them his opinion, when he feels magic use in the hall.  Suspicious, he tries to pop out into the far end of the hallway and finds Undershadow blocked.  He uses an actual Trump card to leave, and appears in Argent.  He Trumps Rune, suspecting that he or Kevin gave their father a little too much information about Undershadow.  Rune apparently did not do so.  Annoyed, Brand returns to the Keep.  There, he senses Logrus power that zips up and runs when he brings up the Pattern.  Upon investigation, he finds that someone was fooling with the locks where he keeps the Jewel of Judgment.  Taking the Jewel, he questions Jasra, but she didn’t notice anything.

Sterling and Kevin take Penny out on a dirigible to see the city.  Sterling gets a Trump call from his general regarding some dragons attacking in the forest.  They leave Penny there with instructions to the driver to see her home.  Penny is returned to the castle, and seeks out Kei to report the dragons.

A servant knocks on Kei’s door to announce that four ambassadors from the Golden Circle Shadows have arrived, and Corwin has not yet returned.  Kei agrees to greet them.  The ambassadors are two humans, the auburn-haired Lady Coral of Begma and the weasley-looking Lord Egon Weishaupt of Weirmonken; Mios of the Deep Radiance, and the anthropomorphic hamster Lentaro Donjangi of Telluria.  Kei and Penny greet and make them welcome.

Sterling and Kevin find damage but no trace of dragons.  Sterling tries the Trump of his mother again.  Kevin sees Sterling disappear.  Sterling feels scooped up and scrutinized.  He speaks, trying to make contact, but there is no answer.  Kevin feels a reptilian power building in the area.  Sterling feels the waves nearby but he can’t reach them - he is being kept from them.  Finally Sterling reappears, and the power fades away.

Kei and Penny chat and eat with the ambassadors.  Egon subtly manages to find out the princesses’ marital status.  The ambassadors take their leave with Kei’s instructions about keeping safe in the city at night.

Later, at dinner with the family, Kei fills Corwin in on the ambassadors.  Kevin reports on the wedding.  Merlin is not at dinner - he was seen shuffling to his room, looking as though he had been attacked by a wild animal.  Corwin inquires with Penny about how she finds Argent.  Random shows up to say, “Hot damn what a wedding!”

Penny gets acquainted with Trumps while Rune and Sterling make a quick visit to her home Shadow to be assured that she still has family living after the demon attack.  The family is indeed alive, and the brothers are nearly arrested for kidnapping and besmirching the reputation of the lady of the house.  Oops.

Rune is called in for a private discussion with Corwin and Merlin.

Kevin receives a message from his club, asking him to come as soon as possible.  He arrives to be shown the door of his private rooms, which is leaking blood all around the door jamb.  Kevin moves a ward into the room to make a bubble for himself that he might look around.  The entire room is filled with blood.  Kevin orders it cleaned up.

Kevin and Sterling visit the place of the Trump from Jasra.  It looks like a giant mausoleum.  They knock and trade pithy quips with the doorman.  They are shown in to a bald, pale woman in a hooded robe.  They learn that this place is the Well of Souls, the antithesis of the Keep of the Four Worlds.  The lady of this Keep is Zumai.  Kevin says that he would like to learn more from her, and gains her acquiescence to return.

Sterling continues to try with his mom’s Trump.

Rune works on his secret project.

The police station finds its offices filled with huge, dead pigs.

Giant piles of manure appear in the main intersections of Argent’s streets.

Corwin calls his children together.  Julian and Caine are there as well.  Corwin discusses the weird stuff going on, and admits that he was the recipient of the first action. He produces a blue eyeball in a box, and tells them that he believes it to be Deirdre’s.  Rune and Merlin have worked from its sympathetic magic to create a Trump of where this eyeball came from.  Who will go on this raid?  There is discussion about Corwin, Caine, and Julian staying, since they are Pattern Masters and Kings.  Corwin reluctantly agrees to stay, offering up Grayswandir.  Kei accepts the blade, agreeing to go if Julian will stay.  He agrees and gives Kevin a spell to block Undershadow; the kids take Caine with them and go.  Sterling provides everyone with guns and grenades, and he loads himself up with other explosives.  The Shadow looks like a mental institution from 1950s Shadow Earth.

Elsewhere, Brand gets a mental ping that someone has entered the Shadow.  He opens a Trump Gate at the back of the building and sends Dalt’s troops in from Persephone.

Sterling shoots a gas station a mile away to keep the authorities busy, then shoots the institution’s front desk with a rocket launcher.  Rune feels around for Pattern energy and gets a bead on Deirdre.  Everyone zips up there with Sterling.  The room is heavily warded, and Brand sends pressurized lava from one end of the hallway toward the rescue party.  Kevin puts up a barricade to it, and cools it down, then starts working on the wards.  Sterling sends an explosive to the other end of the hallway, with the detonator at his foot.  The soldiers show up, sticking a mirror around the bend to see their adversaries.  Sterling shoots the mirror.  He zips to that end of the hallway, drops more explosives, and zips back.  The entire side of the building goes.  Kei uses Grayswandir to cut a doorway into the wards.  Kevin releases Julian’s spell, and Brand has a hard time getting into Deirdre’s room.

Kevin triggers a trap inside the room, which starts gnawing on his wards.  Rune Trumps Kevin, and Kevin sends the trap on to Rune.  Rune finds himself covered in hot tar and stuck in a monstrous briar patch.  Brand pops into the room then, standing on the far side of Deirdre’s bed.  Caine sees him through the doorway and shoots him in the head.  Brand goes down.  Kevin uses the Jewel of Quintessence with his Containment spell to encapsulate the room, instructing Kei to catch the box, carry it carefully, and put it in a big room in Argent.  She agrees, and the entire room becomes the size of a shoebox.

While the family returns the box to Argent and reports to Corwin and Julian what happened, Kevin works through the wards and traps of the room, shooting Brand every so often to keep him from rising up.  He finally grabs Deirdre and turns the bed over onto Brand, slamming it on his head.

Meanwhile, as Brand struggles with his shot-in-the-brain-and-several-other-places condition, the ghost of Dworkin mocks and threatens him.

Kevin opens up the box.  Corwin, Julian, and Caine call in Fiona to discuss how to secure Brand.  Kevin gets the Jewel of Judgment off of Brand; Sterling plucks out one of Brand’s eyes to give to Deirdre.  Brand’s “self” disappears from his corporeal form, returning to his Pattern.

Unfortunately, the harrying of Argent continues, even though Brand’s body has been destroyed.  The full list of events:

Postgame -

So, another session in the bag. I think the solution that we came up with for explaining the absence of Wynn and Fatima was a number of mysterious deaths in Wynn's people's shadow, that Fatima and Wynn went to investigate.

Rune, with help from assorted individuals, spends about a year trying  different avenues to retreive Kaji. He disappears after that first year.
After five years, Rune re-appears with Kaji.

Also at this time the litigation against Tir-na Nog'th gets kicked up a notch.
One of the things kicked off during that year is the litigation between the Keep of the Four Worlds and Tir-na Nog'th, with Kevin mostly being stuck in the middle.

About that time word reaches you all eventually that Brand is "back."

Just wanted to note that, in addition to all other hijinks you guys get involved in, over the next five years a series of terrorist attacks occur against Kevin and Sterling.  It starts with a dead shadow body of Kevin turning up on the doorstep to the Pennyroyal Tea House.  This is followed by shadows of Kevin's dead girlfriend following him through Argent.  (Kevin kills several of them, which takes some explaining to the police. He's able to get off with some community service.)  Sterling has a few run ins with a sniper that comes gunning for him every year or so. After a couple attempts, Kevin and Sterling are probably able to catch the sniper.  Again: a shadow version of Sterling, with a shadow version of his gun.  Both Kevin and Sterling are victims of malicious spellcasting, usually just short of lethal.  No suspects are captured.

In other news, Kei spends a few weeks locked up after a homicidal rage.  All anyone can learn is that it involved her horse.  Further details will need to be obtained from Kei herself.
