Characters Present:
Runegar “Rune” Qelis – Kirgan
Sterling Mortlock – Dan
Fatima Rodriguez – Leslie
Kei Mitsutama – Jen
Kevin “Kev” Corey – Andi
Wynn Cordell – Art
We start off the game setting the
location of everyone within their reality: Sterling is hanging out at
his girlfriend’s bar, Wynn is the protector of his people trying to
forge a place to survive, Fatima is still haunted by her strange
photo-wielding lizard attackers with the strange symbols, Rune is only
rarely being haunted by the memory of his leather clad attacker, Kev
has returned to Seattle to hang with his girlfriend, and Kei has
returned to kick vampire ass.
One day in the life of Rune, a man
knocks on the door of his apartment. Rune asks who it is, and he states
he is to bring him to his father. Although quite surprised, he prepares
and answers the door to a strangely dressed man in a fisherman’s hat
and horn-rimmed glasses. The strange guy decides to get something to
drink and use the facilities. As the guy’s in the bathroom, Rune hears
a rumble and watches as a wall to his apartment falls and disappears
into rubble. The guy curses something about Mr. Bondage and primal
chaos, and it’s found out that it’s Random… although not being able to
finish using the facilities, he pulls Rune through a trump contact with
a dirty arse.
Meanwhile, somewhere in the middle of
Fatima’s night, she awakens to a heavy banging at her door. She checks
the vid feed to reveal a weazly looking man in a flowing green shirt
and tight black pants. Fatima tells him to get lost, and after a moment
of discussion she changes her mind to let him in, however he decides to
let himself in by kicking down the steel reinforced door. Fatima pulls
a gun and fires, which misses – She decides this guy is a badass and
bolts. Fatima runs into the apartment hallways with a gun and no shoes.
She’s doing alright getting away, until the giant cockroaches begin to
swarm around her, chasing her. It’s found out that Caine is chasing
her, complaining how he is very cross with her running away. He gets
her to pause for a moment, which is rewarded with a punch in the face
and a boot heel to the back of the neck, and a final result of trumping
out as the swarm descends…
Wynn is visited one day by a man on a
very large horse, telling him he is to bring Wynn to his father. Wynn
is fine going with him, but wants to defend his people and his city.
Conversation and aggravation ensues, and finally Julian agrees to stay
and help fight off the attacking horde which is coming for the town,
specifically after Wynn. A cluster of burrowing worms arrives, which
are easily defeated by Wynn, Julian, and his astounding horse
Morganstern. They save the day and trump away.
Sterling is enjoying a perfect good
beer at the bar, when this guy with white hair taps on his shoulder,
saying they need to go. Sterlign questions why he should trust him, and
the simple answer is that he has no choice. On that note, he banffs to
the opposite end of the bar, and then banffs to his room to grab his
suitcase. He banffs back to the bar, to see the white-haired guy have
his gun out – apparently the walls have begun to grab people, and the
man, found out later to be Benedict, is shooting them to defend
Sterling. Rather than hang out to see what happens next, he trumps out
with Benedict.
Kevin is having a perfectly good time
hanging out at his girlfriend’s place with his friends, getting high
and watching a movie, when his Aunt Flora shows up at the door. She
looks a touch nervous and informs Kev they need to leave. He walks with
her to the bedroom and begins to question Flora about what is going on,
when it’s noticed that all of Kev’s friends have suddenly become very
spry, armed with makeshift weapons, and are cinematically walking down
the hall with murder in their eyes. Kev closes the door, wards the
bedroom and decides that maybe this would be a nice time to not wonder
what’s going on and just leave. He trumps out with Flora.
Kei has returned to gunting down the
vampire prince-badass. She is kicking butt and taking names, when
suddenly a trapdoor opens up. She catches herself with her sword, and
climbs up the appropriately placed villan. She returns to a stance to
fight the bad guy, when his head disappears, and she’s not responsible.
Kei is then grabbed by several sets of icky hands and hears voices of
whispered sweet luring, which belongs to a giant freaky spider with a
face painted on it. He whispers that he will take her back to the
“master”, and Kei seems none too pleased with this concept. Suddenly,
there’s a jolt and she escapes its clutches, to find two red-headed
“demons” fighting the spiders. She decides to run. After a quick
dispatching of the badder guy, the “Demon” yells after Kei to stop. She
explains that Kei’s father is alive, and that herself and her brother
are to take Kei back to him. Kei seems to be okay with it, but wants to
notify her mother. Fiona nicely asks Bleys to head off in the direction
of the village and let her nice mother know.
Everyone, one by one, are trumped to a
high-tech looking sort of lobby, and they are instructed to enter a
translation room.

Postgame --
- It eventually comes out that Brand was able to move
everyone out of Amber. To the Valley of Ygg. It's unclear
why they were delivered there and not Argent. Julian and Caine
are being surprisingly quiet on the topic.
- Within a few months, you will all be contacted by Merlin, who
provides you with trumps for Gérard, Martin and Vialle.
- Regardless of whether you volunteer for service in Argent or not,
Corwin will still insist that you spend at least a year or two out in
shadow to get a feel for it. He especially insists people that
want to volunteer to do so, as they will come to appreciate the relaxed
time they got to spend.
- Random and Flora are forced to be useful while in Argent. Random is
made "Weaponsmaster," and Corwin advises that anyone who is going to go
running about in shadow spend a few weeks becoming familiar with melee
weapons. This is particularly encouraged for the high-tech
brigade. The lessons with Random start out a little rough, as he
is often drunk/hung-over and half awake. Kei is able to get some
serious licks in on Random early on.
After Vialle
arrives in Argent, Random really polishes up. It's less that he's
in trouble, and more that he's finally happy again.
Anyone who
spends a prolonged period of time training with Random will come to
hate the phrase, "What the hell is that shit supposed to be?" The
lessons focus on a broad range of weapons, from swords to maces to
sharpened spoons. You're also taught the basics of armor, and I
don't mean flak vests. Everyone will be cornered, measured and
issued full-plate armor. Random makes regular students come
dressed in full-plate occasionally and go running.
- Flora handles the social angle. There are regular state social
events, featuring dancing and schmoozing. She works with everyone
to develop a wardrobe utilizing their colors and symbols.
(Apparently the Royals place a lot of emphasis on colors and
symbols.) Kids in Argent are expected to attend the official
functions, and Flora will continue such education until she's satisfied
that you won't make a complete ass out of yourselves.
She's learned
that there are limits to what she can do, but she will at least require
a general set of knowledge of: How to dance, appropriate forms of
address for nobility, and knowledge of serving utensils. I
imagine someone will give her some flak, and things may turn
violent. For the record, yes: she does know how to fight.
She's not well ranked among her siblings, but she can still kick your
asses. For now.
