Events started off pretty mild, and got worse as the day went on. Kei contacted some sort of undead demon guy... her progress in Necromancy let her set up a ritual to contact something she was hunting. As she was chanting in her magic circle, there's a knock at her door - it's the undead spirit, possessing a body. They have a chat - I believe it comes up that he calls himself "The Marquis" and eventually he departs ... well, departs the body he was inhabiting. She gets the victim assistance, and noticed some stuff in his bag... a mask that resembles Rune's face, a cultist-type robe, and some sort of membership pin.
Rune is trumped by Rinaldo. When he answers, it's a weak connection, and Rinaldo's been stabbed. Rune pulls Rinaldo through, and Rinaldo passes out. Rune rushes him to Amber for treatment, and Gerard steps in to help. Rune checks Rinaldo, and when he's sure he's okay, he checks his trumps and his stuff... he notices Kev's trump is missing, and he has some peculiar items... a mask that resembles Rune's face, a cultist-type robe, and some sort of membership pin.
Kev is out on the town with Mona, enjoying the night life... when he gets a magical nudge - it's the Tea House, and some sort of strange guest has arrived. Kev goes there, and meets "the grey man" (until better terms can be found) He has literally popped out of the black bloom bushes that now line his tea house and assulted an arsonist trying to burn down the tea house. The cops were confused, because the perp was in a coma. When Kev checked, the sucker's brain had been scrambled. The grey man also commuicated only in mental concept - something Kev had run into before. He was going to sit down and talk about it until...
These dwarves show up! They grab Kev, the grey guy, and several innocent bystanders and start running for a "portal" to undershadow. Kev used one of his undershadow wards (which he usually uses against Brand) to impede their escape... Rune at some point had trumped Kev, and Kev frantically went through to him, as Rune was in the castle (and is also warded against undershadow). He brought a few dwarves with him, which they dispatch. They eventually get to the tea house, to find that the grey man was fine, but the dwarves took whoever they grabbed away into undershadow... they are considered lost for good.
At that point, Kev was going to settle down and talk to grey guy, but there was ANOTHER attack on the Pattern... Rune & Kev show up to see Brand and some stranger having a battle of wills over the Jewel of Judgement. There some scuffling, Kei eventually shows up... I believe because she figures out that the undead spirit is inhabiting the body trying to take the Jewel. Kev taps on the Jewel of Quintessence, and goes ghostly to avoid being killed by Brand's lava stream shot at him. There's some tricky maneuvering, and eventually spirit guy gets away... but Kev's inside one of the Jewels. Spirit guy goes to some shadow, switches bodies (his previous body had been badly squished) and Kev eventually pops out when he's sitting in some inn in the middle of shadow. They have a scuffle, he bubbles the guy, the spirit leaves. Kev has the Jewels back... He heads back to the Argent Primal Pattern to return them to their safe spot. But unfortunately it dosen't stop there.
Brand throws down the gauntlet, saying "You folks can't take care of the Jewel, I think I deserve it. Give it back. Now." there's some minor heated discussion, and it's decided to go back to Amber to have an "emergency negotiation" with Caine there as well. The discussion is this: No one trusts Brand to have the Jewel, but it also seems the one safe spot that we thought the Jewel would be okay in seems to be constantly compromised, even though the magic of Merlin, Fiona, and Kevin are holding that place shut. Kev being up the idea of having an active family guard sitting at the Argent Pattern, kinda like what Dworkin did... The eventual agreement is this: Forge a new safe place.... the team collaboration is Brand, Flora (who apparently taken up sorcery) Merlin and Fatima. Why Fatima? Because the enemy is a spirit, that's covered by the Jewel of Quintessence, and Brand refused to have Kev on the project.
And so, Caine's holding onto the Jewel of Judgement until the committee can get together and develop this new box. Meanwhile, Kev's taken up to staying at the Argent Primal Pattern, warding it. Over and over again, until it's perfect.
