 Background:

        Josephine Phillips (note:  goes by 'Jo') was born in Montana, the youngest child of six.  All her siblings were brothers.  Her father and mother ran a ranch on a few thousand acres, and she was, of course, expected to help out with most every facet of ranch life, including the 'womanly' duties (washing, cooking) and the 'manly' duties (roping, riding, etc).

        Jo grew up a tomboy, and was doted on by her brothers and her father.  Despite this, or perhaps because of it, she developed a heavy independent streak.  She was the only one of her family to go to an out-of-state college, and from there, she never looked back.  Immediately taking an interest in archaeology and all things ancient, she participated in digs throughout the American West (Native American digs) and Northern Africa, as well as Europe and the Mideast.

        Since she was 18, she's been a student.  To date, she has accumulated two Bachelor's degrees, 3 Masters, and 1 Ph.D.  And she isn't slowing down yet.

        The most recent focus of her education was in ancient languages, to supplement her specialty of archaeology.  The skills she has gleaned from this are more broad-based, and deal mostly with pictograph writing.  To this end she has also acquired some spoken expertise, focusing mainly on middle-eastern and African languages/communication techniques.

        As befitting someone who is a tomboy, and who grew up a tomboy, Jo's interests are some that many women, especially women with a great deal of education, don't have.  She is an avid rock-climber and spelunker, two hobbies that have served her well in her field of work.   Working
in the deserts of Africa and the Middle East have given her perfunctory knowledge in harsh-climate survival, though limited to deserts.  Her childhood on a Montana ranch instilled a love of horses
and their use in the ranching business.  She has several awards from rodeo outings that she cherishes, won when she was in her early teens for roping, trick riding, etc.

        The Josephine Phillips of today stands 5'8", and has red hair that has been faded by years in the sun.  She wears her hair to shoulder length, although it is almost perpetually in a ponytail.  Her skin is deeply tanned, and her eyes a soft shade of green.  Her figure is lean, but regular exercise provides her with some muscle definition and a flat abdomen.  Jo isn't overtly attractive, but her personality and straight-forwardness usually score points with men on first impression.

        Jo has been married once, but it was a fiasco that lasted a brief five months.  The man was a French researcher, and Jo mistook lust for love, and the marriage occured.  During the five months, she saw him for a total of maybe three weeks, but both realized it wasn't going anywhere, and now she approaches marriage with a leery eye, although she always has an eye out for those with 'potential'.
