JAFF COBOL

Physical Description: Jaff Cobol is a dark-skinned, black-haired human of average build. Jaff carries himself with confidence, but his swagger stops just short of arrogance. His personal habits are those of an experienced spacer. Jaff dresses simply in conservatively-cut clothing, but likes to include some bright bit of ornamentation like a scarf or a hat.
Outlook: Jaff believes in individual freedom over all; but not the freedom to be cruel. He deeply regrets some of the ugly things he did as a pirate, but is confident that his career
helped support the Rebellion. Jaff sees government, and authority in general, as a necessary evil to avoid chaos and safeguard personal rights. He despises complex regulations and inflexible bureaucrats.
Jaff likes making friends, and is usually easy to get along with -- mostly because he expects sentients to have personal quirks, and often revels in them.
Background: Born on Bespin, Jaff grew up a petty thief after his parents’ Carbonite accident. The young man never liked the Empire, due to its excessive regulations and anti-free spirit New Order. During the Rebellion, Jaff joined the crew of the pirate ship Opportunity, which raided Imperial shipping lines during the Civil War. Jaff made many friends both on shipboard and among the Alliance contacts. Eventually, due to his
gunnery experience and affable nature, he rose to First Mate of the Opportunity.
After the Empire was defeated, the Opportunity started to prey on civilian vessels, both New Republic and independent. Jaff was angered by this change in policy, and vocally opposed it. After several knock-down drag-out arguments with Captain Bogorosh, Jaff
left on less-than-friendly terms. The Captain saw Jaff as a deserter; Jaff saw Bogorosh as a corrupt bully.
