The ISD Relentless
In a remote asteriod belt lies
a ruined and immobile Star Destroyer - the Relentless.
The Relentless was involved in the Battle of Endor, five years ago.
When the Second Death Star and the Empire were destroyed, the Imperial
fleet fell into a rout. Some ships surrendered, some fought on, some
fled in groups or solo. The Relentless fought on for a while, but
as the tide of battle turned, it attempted to retreat. During
that
retreat, it took heavy fire from Rebellion
sources - damaging its hyperdrives. The Relentless jumped blind.
It ended up in the asteroid belt four lightyears from the Ionian system.
The hyperdrives promptly exploded - voiding large sections of the ISD to
space and crippling it forever.
With the vessel crippled, and out of easy communications range with the
Imperial Core, the officers and crew of the Relentless were reliant on
dispatching Imperial shuttles and other lightspeed capable craft to get
information while they desperately shored up their ruined ship. When
(and if) these vessels returned, the news that they brought was grim.
The Empire was falling, had fallen, Rebel troops and navies were scouring
know space for Imperial remnants, etc.
The Captain of the Relentless, Ren Gragara, is a loyal Imperial officer
of high ideals, who felt that he was helping bring order to the galaxy
through following the orders of his Emporer and his chain of command.
Those both are now gone. Before the Battle of Endor, he had also
been involved in a number of serious "political" clashes with Grand Moff
Ty Kanora as well as a number of other high ranked Imperial Naval personnel.
Therefore, contacting any of the Imperial splinters for aid would not be
prudent for him, his men or his ship.
Over the last five years, Cpt. Gragara has been seeing to the evacuation
of as many officers or men that felt the
desire to go, but the resources for the evacuation have been extremely
limited and growing smaller as hyperdrive capable vessels failed to return
for various reasons. Currently, the last of the shuttles is six months
overdue to return. There are approximately 4,300 crew members still
on board the Relentless, less than a skeleton crew. Large areas of
the ship have been closed off, and many less significant systems are no
longer powered. Supplies are running low as well. The Relentless
has maybe 7 more months of viability as a biosphere.
During the last five years, morale aboard has been sinking rapidly.
As the Relentless is going through it's slow death, Imperial discipline
has begun to break down. There have been mutinies, desertions, riots,
etc. Through it all, Cpt. Gragara and the majority of his command
staff have managed to do what's best for their men. An additional problem
has been that of the original 36,000 crew total, only 3 were women and
they were evacuated in the first wave.
Currently, the Relentless is a ghost ship. The remaining crew vary
from the insane to the determined and grim loyal Imperial who will see
his mission through to the end, with everything in between.
