Son of Bleys of Amber and ? Character Diaries

Name 3 people that your character feels close to and why.

1. Nurse/nanny (Gleddith) - Toeval didn't know his mother so she became his surrogate mother. He suspects/hopes she is his true mother. At any rate, she raised him and loved him as if she were his mother.

2. Mistress/girlfriend (Cerise) - His childhood friend that grew into his greatest love, although they did not become lovers until after college.

3. Father (Bleys) - Though he wasn't present often as a child, he became a stronger presence as he grew into his teens and early adulthood.

Name 3 people that your character considers enemies and why.

1. Father of a former lover. (Duke Arthur of Corth) Corth is a medium sized dukedom in the neighboring monarchy of Artemisis. The duke planned on marrying his daughter into the royal family, but caught her and Toeval in bed. Since virginity is crucial for marriage into royalty, he felt that Toeval ruined his social and political aspirations, not to mention causing public humiliation. She was by no means a virgin when trysting with Toeval,
but he was the one caught with her, so the onus was upon him. The duke periodically sends assassins after him.

2. Princess of a neighboring monarchy. (Serena of Artemisis). She is a bitter woman who was married off when she was twelve to the second son of the king of Artemisis. At thirty-four, she hates her philandering husband and has many affairs to spite him. She and Toeval spent a few torrid nights, but he left her for Duke Arthur's daughter. This enraged the princess, and he became the focus of her life's anger and frustrations.
Her sexual fantasies have evolved into scenarios of kidnapping and enslaving him, with long bouts of torture. He has thwarted several attempts, but it has become her life obsession.

3. Toeval had a bit of a misunderstanding with a person from the Courts of Chaos, and offended unintentionally. (Valens of Hapich, a minor family) He isn't sure what he did or said to cause insult, but Valens holds a vendetta against him. It happened when he was in college, and he thinks it involved a woman (of course), a bet, a goat, and twelve cases of skik (a bit like vodka), but he was rather drunk at the time so the sequence of
events and utterances are hazy at best.

Describe your character's favorite clothing styles for different occasions
and/or professions and why they like them.
            He dresses in whatever happens to be on the floor. Usually black, because
black goes with everything and doesn't show dirt. Always dresses plainly and simply, even for special occasions, albeit the clothes are very fine and usually expensive.

Describe a few signature behaviors of your character (i.e. always flicks his
cigarettes away with his middle finger, brushes a loose curl off her
forehead and tucks it behind her ear when confused, etc.)
           When he learned his name means 'luck' in Dutch, he got a pair of small metal
dice that he fiddles with when thinking intently or is nervous.

What are your character's hobby(ies) and what do they like about them?
Dislike about them?
            Flying dragons and training them. He loves soaring above the country, but
dislikes the daily discipline that is necessary for consistent results.

What is your character's favorite physical environment and why?
            After college and after walking the pattern, Toeval wandered around from
shadow to shadow. After about a year he sought/created a shadow that he decided to call home. The shadow is a technology one with no magic, but still in the mid medieval period. The most dangerous weapon is probably the crossbow, as gunpowder has not been invented. Even the most sophisticated poisons are easily detected with modern testing devices.
    His estate is filled with technological toys that are run from a generator that is powered by a nearby river. He has modern fire and detection devices that have thwarted all attempts on his life.  (Thus far) He is perceived by the locals as a powerful, wealthy, yet relatively harmless wizard, as he has no political aspirations and does not meddle or scheme. However, fathers tend to lock up their daughters when he visits.

What is your character's favorite cultural environment and why?
            He loves this shadow because he enjoys soaring in the mountains with his
dragons and throwing decadent parties. He lives in a republic, much like the Italian republics during the late medieval and early renaissance, with a neighboring monarchy to the west (Artemisis).

What is something that your character would never do and why?
            He would never kill a living thing for pleasure. It goes against his sense of fair
play and justice.

What is something that your character does as often as possible and why?
            Party. Sex. He loves being around people, and the pleasure principle, and he
has the means to obtain them both.

Describe something that your character respects?  Why?
            The Pattern, because walking it was the first time he was truly tested, and it
nearly killed him.

Describe something that your character holds in contempt?  Why?
            People who refuse to take responsibility for their lives and actions, blaming
others for their unhappiness. Serena is a perfect example.

What makes your character laugh?
             When the dragons were young, watching their antics when they played. He also
enjoys jokes at his own expense.

Describe one of your character's nightmares.
            He didn't have nightmares until he walked the pattern and learned of Amber and
Chaos. In it, he is being chased by someone who is vastly more powerful than he is in all respects. He runs away, but cannot escape. He flees through shadow, but that fails as well. He turns to confront his pursuer, and a fight ensues, and he wakes in a cold sweat just as the death blow is delivered.

What does your character want out of life?  What would their legacy be?
            To love and be loved, to live by his ideals, to raise a child, and have a good time
in the process. A very good time. Legacy -- Being remembered as one who could be trusted.

How would your character describe the perfect death?
            Dying in the arms of his love, preferably having sex.

What would your character want their epitaph to read?
            "He was well loved"
