Daughter of the Ulaan Khan of Gol and ? of Amber |
Background
Name 3 people that your character feels
close to and why.
Her mother Ulaan, brothers Kabul and Jurchen, of course. Blood is
thick in Gol, and family is either at your back or trying to stab it.
Singh has strong bonds with all three, but Kabul may harbor hidden resentment,
as he sees no chance of ever becoming Khan while Singh is alive.
Of the Amberites, she is fond of Princess Florimel, who treats Singh well
despite Flora’s distaste of the “uncultured,” and King Random, whom she
wishes she could have known when he was younger and wilder. In the
Golden Circle, she enjoys spending time with Kurambi and Durambi.
Perhaps she is most fond of her horse, Baataar; but that is not unusual
in a Gol.
Name 3 people that your character considers
enemies and why.
Princess Fiona, for reasons she cannot name, except perhaps her impression
that Fiona feels the Pattern walk was a torture that Singh was not meant
to survive. Fiona obviously knows what’s going on, but she’s not
speaking any more than Ulaan is.
Ain Jalut, Warlord of Western Gol. A member of Ulaan’s Kuriltai (Council
of Chieftans). Depending on his current plans, Ain Jalut seems to
alternately want to wed or slay Singh. Someday perhaps both.
He does have his charm, but his incessant plotting is off-putting.
Miguel Ikel, Count deBiyo. A pompous lord of El Soya, known for conspicuous
consumption. Though hedonistic and dissipated, he retains enough
wits to be a formidable opponent. (Cross Baron Harkonen with the
six-fingered man.) Singh considers him an enemy because he is constantly
making trouble for Gol with Burgami, trying to play one off the other.
Physical
Describe your character's favorite clothing
styles for different occasions and/or professions and why they like them.
Soft doeskin (oxen suede?) riding leathers preferred. For formal
wear, brocaded silks are worn over. (Imagine the cut and colors of
the Minbari.) In battle, armor of leather pieces is sometimes
worn. When relaxing, Singh will often wear next to nothing – perhaps
a fur two-piece of a sheer silk robe. Undergarments are usually worn
only for functional purpose, not style. Functionality and comfort
are Singh’s focus in clothing.
Describe a few signature behaviors of
your character (i.e. always flicks his cigarettes away with his middle
finger, brushes a loose curl off her forehead and tucks it behind her ear
when confused, etc.)
Frequently runs her fingers through her hair as their seems to constantly
be some twig, piece of grass or straw stuck there. This is done when
she is self-conscious for some reason, either outside scrutiny or interior
musing. She also paces when agitated or when excited. Only if deeply
distraught will she be very still. Otherwise some kind of movement
or fiddling is evident.
What are your character's hobby(ies)
and what do they like about them? Dislike about them?
Hellriding is the ultimate, through Shadow, feeling the wind and rhythm
of the hoofbeats change. The feeling of freedom is unparalleled.
She would occasionally like a companion, however, or a definite destination.
Racing is also a passion, on steed, on foot, or in one shadow on a machine
they call a “hog.”
Finding and mastering mounts of various shadows. She likes making
friends with local animal handlers. She doesn’t like how time changes,
so that a person or a mount can be so much older when she finally returns
to that shadow.
What is your character's favorite physical
environment and why?
The open road – for obvious reasons. Open plains. For interior
environment, she loves the comfy tent filled with furs and pillows, a stove
in one corner providing any extra heat needed. Large, imposing structures
tend to seem a waste of material. She enjoys exploring anything cavelike,
however, and is not at all claustrophobic.
What is your character's favorite cultural
environment and why?
The friendly physical contest, whether it be arm wrestling over drinks
or a
drinking contest after an exercise of
arms. The comaraderie of the military camp, the focused friendship
of a hunt, the fan fervor of a soccer game.
Psychological
What is something that your character
would never do and why?
She would never marry for purely political reasons – there are other ways
to cement alliances. She holds this view mostly to stop her mother
from marrying her off to some other Golden Kingdom. Singh loves Gol,
though she is away often, and definitely wants to make it her home eventually.
She would never intentionally lose, or “throw a game,” except to further
some specific aim. Let the loser get over it – that is part of the
contest.
What is something that your character
does as often as possible and why?
Samples local food, because the general fare in the Gol camps can be abysmal.
Cook for herself, for the same reason, and if she doesn’t like to local
cuisine.
Test herself in little or big ways, such as seeing if she can make that
leap, wrestle that alligator, ride that tornado. This comes from
her background of constantly being challenged, and needing to meet those
challenges to survive.
Describe something that your character
respects. Why?
Strength of body or personality and the wisdom/cunning to use it where
and when needed. Someone who can adhere to a personal code, or champion
an idea. A good loser and a good winner. Care toward the helpless,
ruthlessness against an enemy. She admires those who can direct their
efforts effectively, because it shows good planning and discipline.
Describe something that your character
holds in contempt. Why?
Waste, because resources are so precious where she comes from. Useless
expressions of wealth. Pomposity, because you should always be able
to back your attitude with action.
What makes your character laugh?
Bawdy stories, because they are so unlike reality. Exaggeration for
the sake of humor. Someone who can make fun of themselves, and point
out the absurdities of others.
Describe one of your character's nightmares.
The spirits from the Black Wall swoop down and carry off everyone she knows,
leaving her wounded totally alone. Then a strange figure appears,
blue fire encircling him, casting chiarascuro in the night. She thinks
he may be there to save her, but he reaches to her wound and it flares
into blue combustion, engulfing her and changing her into…she wakes up.
What does your character want out of
life? What would their legacy be?
To live and love and conquer, to overcome all challenges with intensity
and verve. To succeed her mother, but expand Gol’s influence to shadows
outside the Golden Circle, to expand her people’s horizons.
She would like the truth about her parentage and powers, but how she came
to be here is secondary to how she uses the life she was given. If
she never knows, so be it. Perhaps one of her descendants will someday
uncover the secret.
How would your character describe the
perfect death?
In battle (successfully) defending her own (people, kingdom, etc.) preferably
after a long and important rule.
What would your character want their
epitaph to read?
“She led even the weakest to bravery, and the brave to glory."
