Book One -- A Gathering of Dreams

Chapter Two:  Smoke and Shadows

            Ekin preceded to discuss their journey plans with Singh and determined to obtain the added guide resource of Prince Saphir.  As Singh mounted to ride off to Amber Castle, low and behold -- there came Saphir riding as steadily as he could towards her.
            Saphir had awakened and searched the Castle for her.  The head of the servants had said that she has gone to the pier.  Saphir went to the stables, gave some good tips and, one horse later, was on his way.
            In the streets outside the Port Building they were reunited.  Singh gave the intros and the two princes greeted each other with great respect They all talked of what they did and didn't know of their journey, Chaos and  Dworkin.
            They headed over to a place that Ekin knew of where they could order up some good food and talk.  Discourse proceeded with the sharing of each's
involvement in the events of Amber.
            They were interrupted by an exclamation from one of Ekin's henchmen that the Wakeangel was on fire!  Our heroes bolted down to the harbor to find chaos rampant and the Wakeangel drifting out and burning down fast.
            Saphir jumped into one of the waterline boats and went out to the Wakeangel.  Ekin talked with his men and the captain.  After gathering info on the events that the bystanders saw leading to  the fire, he dispatched Captain Vendretti to tell Admiral Caine of the catastrophe.
            Saphir couldn't do much from the boat after the fire.  They returned to breakfast they discussed the oddity of explosions in Amber, and of whom might strike at their mission Courts of Chaos.  Fiona, Caine or other members of the royal family?  They decided to gather further resources.
            Saphir would seek out info on whom -- perhaps Merlin? -- could help them
with knowledge of Chaos.  Ekin would talk with Caine about the incident/sabotage of the Wakeangel.  Singh would do some recon and investigative work of her own.
              Toeval and Martin return to a nearby Shadow.  There, they see that Martin still has that strange glass on him.  They decide, based upon Martin's advice, that they should seek out Merlin.  They hellride to his position and find him.
            It turns out he is trapped in this place, which is some construct of his mind.  They can get out -- they believe -- but he can't.  So they spend time trying to figure out that situation.
              Nero went to Lord Chantril's house to have the dreaded cook-off to test his cook and his culinary and/or appetitive sanity. The cook-off produced an incredibly good looking cheese covered asparagus dish -- that tasted like shit to Nero but was lauded and loved by everyone else!  This puzzled and enraged the short-fused Nero who, of course, made a big scene and took off.
            Back at his keep, he forced his boy Edso to do swordplay.  Edso walked
into the blade and bled-a blood that smelled of perfume.  Nero the benevolent preceded to cut up more of his staff to more scent of perfume.  Next in the bloodbath path of Nero the Fowl Slaughterer was -- yes, a goose -- that was killed and cooked.  It tasted like shit, smelled like perfume! Nero believes that it ties into the problem with Amber/Reality....
              Saphir goes to Fiona and asks, "Where do I find Merlin?  We think he would know Chaos?"
            Fiona says, "Yeah he knows it best, but you are adult princes in Amber. Start acting like it."
            Gotcha.
              Singh goes to hellride out of Amber.  She feels fine.  Coming back, she's still fine.  She goes to talk to Julian about what is transpiring.  He says, "Mind your own biz, Princess of Gol."
              Ekin goes to Uncle Caine and asks what happened.  Who did this?
            Caine doesn't know.
            Ekin asks how explosions could occur in Amber.
            Caine says that Corwin brought the powder to Amber during the Patternfall War.
            Ekin says "I think you know more than you are telling and is the threat really to all of Reality or just your royal interests/selves? Soo, I quit!!"
            Caine and Vendretti look stunned!
            He goes home to relax...
