Son of Florimel of Amber and ? |
Background
Name 3 people that your character feels
close to and why.
Lt. Po, the first mate of the Wolverine. Ekin values this older man's
steadfastness and reliability. Lt. Po is absolutely loyal to Ekin
and turns a blind eye to what he considers 'a young man's natural tendencies'
-- when he thinks about it at all. Ekin finds comfort in Lt. Po's
predictability. The man is very by the book, unless the Captain says
otherwise.
Vanessa, prostitute at The House of Flowers. Vanessa takes no more
than
she needs and gives no more than is wanted.
She keeps herself scrupulously out of the politics of house, Navy and Amber.
She is there to serve. It is doubtful that she has intense feelings
for Cpt. Ekin. Or indeed for anyone. But she truly and deeply
understands her position and her and Ekin's relationship and finds it satisfactory.
Jere, bartender at The Red Horn. Jere is the bartender of which all
other bartenders are mere shadows. He has a near-telepathic ability
to serve the drink needed -- not requested, but needed -- with little or
no communication from his clients. With Ekin, Jere is usually quiet
as the young Captain, does need or solicit conversation. He also
makes a *damn* fine Daiquiri.
Name 3 people that your character considers
enemies and why.
Ekin dislikes and despises his uncle -- and superior -- Admiral Caine.
He finds his uncle's Machiavellian machinations revolting and only the
fact that Caine is *way* better protected than Ekin prevents an 'accident.'
Of course, better than Ekin have been trying for years, so there's not
much point in Ekin joining the game. Leaving the young Captain few
options.
Captain Rinsberg, former commander in the Arden Rangers. Captain
Rinsberg was in charge of Ekin's squad at the time of the incident.
The mutual detestion between the two men is common knowledge, though honor
has kept both from open attacks. Also contributing to a lack of open
warfare, is the fact that Cpt. Rinsberg was assigned as an attaché
to the Court of Dargothia shortly after Ekin's promotion. So far,
he has survived it. And what doesn't kill one...
Alistair St. John-Peeves, Accountant of the Royal Navy. An absolute
bean-counter nit-picker whom Captain Ekin has run afoul of on a number
of occasions. St. John-Peeves is an older and, in his own mind, scrupulously
fair man. However, he has taken a specific dislike to Captain Ekin
due to his royal connections and his 'flamboyant disregard for the duty
under which the rest of us must serve.' He makes sure that he brings
down the exact letter of the law at any time the Wolverine is refurbishing,
supplying or receiving orders.
Physical
Describe your character's favorite clothing
styles for different occasions and/or professions and why they like them.
As his mother's son, Ekin is diligent about maintaining -- and sometimes
--
creating the latest fashions in the Court
and city proper. He is *always* stylish,
well-dressed and well coifed.
He also makes a particular point to appear in uniform frequently, especially
when there are young ladies about.
Describe a few signature behaviors of
your character (i.e. always flicks his cigarettes away with his middle
finger, brushes a loose curl off her forehead and tucks it behind her ear
when confused, etc.)
When not on duty, Captain Ekin usually has a drink in hand.
What are your character's hobby(ies)
and what do they like about them? Dislike about them?
Martial Arts -- Ekin likes the power and grace, but dislikes become sweaty
or
disheveled.
Fencing -- as above
Magazines -- Ekin enjoys reading 'Port and Rose', the Amber equivalent
of 'The New Yorker'. It keeps him abreast of the latest news around
the castle and city.
What is your character's favorite physical
environment and why?
Bed.
Ekin also enjoys modern urban environments, considering the equivalent
of 20th Century America to be the height of civilization.
What is your character's favorite cultural
environment and why?
Bed.
But he does take time to embrace the swirling social dynamics of a modern
'cocktail party' or its equivalent.
Psychological
What is something that your character
would never do and why?
Ekin would never have red wine with fish -- or behave in any other way
that
would be seen as gauche by the reigning
'haute-culture.'
What is something that your character
does as often as possible and why?
Drink. Ekin's constitution and Amberite stamina mean that he is rarely
'drunk.'
Thus, he has become quite the connoisseurs
of vintages both gentle and strong.
Describe something that your character
respects. Why?
Ekin respects a lively and keen intelligence. Having been brought
up at the
court, he has had a chance to see some
of the finest minds in Amber used -- and
misused.
Describe something that your character
holds in contempt. Why?
Poverty. Ekin has no use for the poor.
What makes your character laugh?
Other people's misery. Ekin has a very dark and cynical sense of
humor.
Describe one of your character's nightmares.
Ekin is wandering through the hallways of Castle Amber. Around him
are bright
and beautiful people, laughing and enjoying
themselves. But they cannot see or hear him. He himself is
a pale ghost, powerless, transparent, insubstantial. He is unable
to get their attention and wanders forever a powerless outsider.
What does your character want out of
life? What would their legacy be?
More. Ekin wants more and more out of life. He is insatiable
in his desire to live life to its fullest. But half the time, that
means being left alone with a good drink
and a good book. The other half
is ecstatic whirl of more power, more women, more, more, more. And
with Ekin's constitution more is a whole, WHOLE lot.
How would your character describe the
perfect death?
Happening to someone else.
What would your character want their
epitaph to read?
Last One Standing.
