one another.

History

Ekin is young -- very young by Amber standards -- in his early fifties.  He
was raised in the Courts of Amber by his mother, Princess Florimel.  The Princess never chose to disclose to either Ekin or the Court just whom the boy's father was.  After all, he had only one significant parent -- herself.
Princess Florimel made sure that her son was raised as an expert in all the courtly arts; etiquette, dancing, dueling, seduction, a connoisseurs of food and wine.  She often used the growing young man as an escort or bodyguard in his formative years.
When Ekin was twenty years old, his mother arranged for a traditional posting in Julian's (her full brother's) Arden Rangers.  Ekin's time there was unremarkable, except at the end.  There was a mysterious "incidence" for which Ekin was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.  Just before he was given a honorable discharge for the Arden Rangers.
Neither Ekin, nor Florimel, nor Julian himself will speak of the specifics.  And all of the other guards involved have been shifted to far posts and seem disinclined to further contact with any of the Amber family.
Next on Flora's list of appropriate occupations was a tour of duty in the Amber Navy, serving under another full brother of hers, Admiral Caine.  This suited the young Duke much better and soon Ekin rose to the position of Captain.  His ship, the Wolverine, was a moderate war vessel of medium distinction.
The now Captain Ekin used his connections and knowledges of the seas
around Amber and through the Golden Circle to establish a moderate mercantile line.  He acquired a moderate and three small shipping vessels over the years.  He also became the owner of a large warehouse within Amber Port proper, as well as two smaller warehouses in the Golden Kingdom Circles of Atlantia and Begma.  Though one can never be sure with the royalty of Amber, and especially with Flora herself, both Ekin and his compatriots seemed to feel that these successes were entirely due to the nature and work of the young Captain himself.
While not a spectacular rise to power, at least a sturdy and non-controversial one for the son of a Princess.
